Man charged over theft of car in Monaghan with child (10) inside

Child found unharmed about five miles from where the car was taken

A man has been charged in Co Monaghan with the theft of a car in which a ten-year-old child had been sitting.

The 34-year-old man appeared at a special sitting of Cavan District Court on charges relating to the alleged unlawful taking of a car and a drink driving offence at Clones, Co Monaghan on Sunday.

The man was further remanded in custody to a sitting of the District Court at Harristown.

Gardaí said an Opel Zafira was stolen from outside a business premises in Clones and the child was in the vehicle at the time. The child was later found unharmed about five miles from where the car was taken.
