Murder of Lithuanian in Tyrone may be linked to assault

Man found dead in a garage in Coalisland last Thursday

Police in the North are investigating if there is a link between a murder and an assault in Co Tyrone last week.

The body of a 32-year-old man, understood to be from Lithuania, was found in a garage in the Moor Road area of Coalisland on Thursday, October 15th.

Following a postmortem examination, police said they are now treating his death as a murder.

A PSNI spokesman said detectives are investigating a possible link between the murder and an assault in Coalisland on Wednesday, October 14th, when a man, also understood to be from eastern Europe, was shot in the leg.

Detective Chief Inspector Lee McNevison is leading the murder investigation.

He appealed for anyone who “saw anything unusual in the Moor Road area of Coalisland in recent days” to call officers at Dungannon station on the non-emergency number 101 or by passing anonymous information via the independent Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111.
