Two Northern Irish men returning from Lanzarote were remanded in custody

Revenue Customs officers have seized some 40,000 cigarettes from the luggage of two men who arrived into Cork Airport on a flight from Lanzarote at the weekend.

The CK, Bravo and Patria brands worth some €19,000 were discovered in the baggage of the Northern Irish men in their 20s and 40s on Saturday night.

The pair was arrested by officers and appeared before Cork District Court today.

They were remanded in custody by Judge Leo Malone to appear again on Wednesday. The seizure represented a potential loss to the Exchequer of €14,500.
