Teen released without charge after Galway stabbings

A 17-year old from Dublin, who was arrested following a number of incidents in Galway over the weekend, has been released without charge.

The teenager, who was arrested after an 18-year-old suffered stab wounds and two other men in their 20s had their wallets stolen at knifepoint, was arrested in Eyre Square in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The 18-year old was treated for non-life threatening injuries after being stabbed in an incident which happened on the Headford Road area of the city.

Another man, in his late 30s, was also threatened with a knife by a teenager, in the same area.

The 17-year-old was arrested and taken to Mill Street garda station. He was released without charge and a file is being prepared for the DPP.

Meanwhile, gardaí in Galway have renewed their appeal for witnesses as a 22-year-old man fights for his life in hospital in Dublin.

The man, who is from Co Galway, was transferred from University Hospital Galway to Beaumont Hospital after suffering serious head injuries.

He was injured in an accident outside a fast food restaurant in Galway city around 3.30am on Sunday morning.

Gardaí at Mill Street station (091-538000) have set up an incident room and are examining CCTV footage from premises in the Shop Street area around the time of the attack.
