Friends and local residents have paid tribute to a teenager who was killed in a road collision in Dublin on Christmas day.
Warren Kenny (16) died after the scrambler motorbike he was riding collided with another bike in Ballyfermot at around 8am on Christmas morning. The boy was said to be a gifted athlete.
Another man in his 20s was also injured in the fatal incident on Cherry Orchard Avenue, and he is thought to have sustained a broken arm in the crash.
Drimnagh-based Sinn Féin councillor Daithí Doolan extended his sympathies to the boy's family.
Local politicians say action is needed to address the use of scrambler-style motor bikes in urban areas.
Mr Doolan said the sound of scramblers and quad bikes speeding across fields and down residential avenues is particularly prevalent at Christmas. “We see a proliferation of them at this time of year. Yesterday I woke up in the morning and heard them in our local park in Drimnagh, they’re everywhere,” he said
Labour TD Joe Costello said a policing plan is needed on use of the bikes. "No year goes by without injuries," he said.
