Athletics:The Irish team's successful start to this year's World Athletics Championships continued today in Osaka.
Kilkenny runner Joanne Cuddihy was in action in Heat 2 of the 400m this morning. The 23-year-old came home in a time of 51.55, a season's best, to take third place in her heat and qualify for tomorrow's semi-final.
Robert Heffernan finished 6th in the final of the 20K Walk in a time of 1.23.42. The race was won by Ecuadorian Jefferson Perez in a time of 1.22.20.
Heffernan had originally finished in 5th place after Spaniard Francisco Javier Fernandez was disqualified but he was later reinstated on appeal to take second place and push the Cork native back into 6th position.
Day three at the world championships will see several of the Irish in action including World Indoor Champion Derval O'Rourke. The Cork woman will compete in the heats for the 100m Hurdles, while Michelle Carey will be racing in the heats of the 400m Hurdles.
Wicklow duo Roisin McGettigan and Fionnuala Britton were both impressive in their 3000m Steeplechase semi final and will look to continue that form as they compete in the Final tomorrow.
