NICOSIA The Cypriot attorney general, Mr Alecos called a meeting of officials yesterday to an explanation after President Glafcos Clerides accused the police force of murder and corruption.

Mr Clerides implicated police in a wave of unsolved killings and arson attacks linked to underworld battles for control over drugs, gambling and prostitution rackets on the Mediterranean tourist hot spot.

His accusations in a letter followed the resignation of the deputy police chief last Thursday.
