The launch of the Irish Cancer Society's Daffodil Day was officially performed by president of the European Parliament, Mr Pat Cox MEP, yesterday.

It is hoped that this year's event, on March 22nd, will raise more than €2.25 million to fund free specialist nursing services for people with cancer.

The 2001 Daffodil Day was a record-breaker despite foot-and-mouth restrictions and brought in €2.16 million with the help of 5,000 volunteer sellers and organisers. The funds have allowed the Irish Cancer Society to increase its home-based night nurse service which was used by more than 850 families last year.
