A Dublin lap-dancing venue, Club Lapello, can continue operating for at least another month, pending appeal of a decision to refuse it a dance licence, District Court President Judge Peter Smithwick ruled yesterday.

The Dame Street club was last week refused an annual dance licence by Judge Clare Leonard after she found it did not allow dancing in terms understood by the courts. The owner, Mr Chris Kelly, is appealing that decision and a hearing is expected shortly in the Circuit Court.

Yesterday, counsel for Mr Kelly asked Judge Smithwick to grant a temporary licence pending that appeal.
