THE Minister for Social Welfare has cautioned people - especially pensioners - about bogus callers to their homes claiming to be officials of his Department.
Mr De Rossa cited a number of recent incidents in the Dublin area, including one in Shankill where a man called to a partially sighted pensioner claiming he was a social welfare official and took £60.
The Minister said that officers of the Department of Social Welfare all have identity cards which show their name, position and a photograph.
Usually, they give advance notice of home visits, he said.
