Algiers - A hunter in northern Algeria had his throat slit last week, after which assailants removed the dead man's brain and filled the head with explosives as a trap for security officers, the Sawt el-Ahrar newspaper reported yesterday.
The gruesome event took place on Friday in Tiaret, 350 km south-west of Algiers. Suspected Islamic extremists had ambushed about 20 hunters in high plains between Tiaret and Djelfa, but killed only one of them. They rigged the explosives so they would detonate at the arrival of security forces. The agents were familiar with the practice, however, and disabled the explosive so that they could safely remove the body.
