The Circuit Court appeal will be heard in the new year. A cattle dealer who admitted giving a cheque for £3,000 to a Department of Agriculture official in return for calf identity tags and stamped blank documents has been given a three-month suspended sentence.
Patrick Duffy, Greyacre Road, Dundalk, Co Louth, pleaded guilty at Drogheda District Court to giving the official the cheque on January 10th in return for the furnishing of international transport certificates and health certificates contrary to the Prevention of Corruption Act 1906. The case was part of a much larger investigation.
