"Hair, fiber, skin, blood, things like that can be recovered long after a crime takes place."Asked if that was what police were looking for in Mr Condit's apartment,Mr Ramsey said: "That would be the kind of evidence that we look for."

Police searched Mr Condit's Washington apartment late on Tuesday and early yesterday.

Ms Levy was last seen April 30th at her Washington health club. She had told her family that she was heading back to California.

Mr Ramsey again said the California Democrat is not a suspect in Ms Levy's disappearance."The reason why we say he's not a suspect is because we don't have a crime yet. The only thingwe have is a missing person", he said.

He added that Mr Condit's apartment was searched because an offer had been extended."It was in our best interest to take him up on that offer because there are some questions that we need to have answered", Mr Ramsey said.
