Deportivo La Coruna's Aldo Duscher has apologised to David Beckham for committing the tackle which ended the England captain's season and put his World Cup participation in doubt.

The Argentinian midfielder held a short telephone conversation with the Manchester United midfielder, and then told Spanish sports paper Marcathat the past 72 hours had been "very difficult".

The foul, in Wednesday's Champions League match between Deportivo and United at Old Trafford, is expected to keep Beckham sidelined for approximately six to eight weeks.

"These have been very difficult days for me and my family. I could hardly sleep and I hope all this ends as soon as possible," said Duscher.

"Maybe the worst thing is that seven or eight English journalists appeared at my house and I had no idea what would happen.

"I was chased by them and they gave me the impression I had done something terrible.

"It's very hard when all of the Press of one country is attacking you."

Duscher revealed he had no intentions of hurting Beckham and has been shocked by the reaction to his challenge.
