Leading by the minimum at the interval, second-half goals from Paul Galvin and Kieran Donaghy swung the contest in the Kingdom’s favour and even a late Padraic Joyce strike wasn’t enough for the Tribesmen.

Elsewhere, Dublin hammered the final nail in Westmeath’s dismal league campaign with a facile 5-22 to 0-10 victory over Tomas O Flatharta’s dispirited side. The win, coupled with Donegal’s loss, ensured Dublin’s survival in the top flight.

Dublin’s five goals came courtesy of Pat Burke (2), Conal Keaney, Ciaran Burke and Darren Magee while the returning Alan Brogan was also hugely influential as Westmeath capitulated.
