Deacon Batt Desmond, the 73-year-old uncle of the businessman, Mr Dermot Desmond, was ordained to the priesthood yesterday. Father Desmond studied for the priesthood after his retirement as principal of Dripsey National School, where he had served for 34 years.
The ordination took place at Carriganima, Co Cork, where Father Desmond will now serve as a curate.
