Enterprise Energy Ireland, the developer of the Corrib gas field off Mayo, has said the impact of its activities on whale and dolphin populations will be addressed in a revised submission for the Department of the Marine and Natural Resources, writes Lorna Siggins.
The revised environmental impact statement on offshore aspects of the Corrib project is currently being prepared for the Department, following a request for more information. EEI has also revised its planning application to Mayo County Council for the onshore terminal at Bellnaboy Bridge.
The company was responding to criticism from the Irish Whale and Dolphin Group in relation to the impact of the Corrib project on cetacean populations.
The group has criticised the Department of Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands for failing to ensure that EU directives are observed offshore and at the proposed landfall, which is in a Special Area of Conservation in Broadhaven Bay.
