The body of a diver who went missing at sea off the Galway coast yesterday has been recovered.

The man was located just before 3pm today by members of the garda sub-aqua diving unit 50 metres from the dive site in Killary Harbour, Co Galway.

It is understood the man - believed to be a 42- year old Tuam native who had been living in England - was scuba diving with three others off Inishbarna island at the mouth of the fjord.

The Cleggan and Westport Coast Guard units, the Sligo-based Irish Coast Guard Sikorsky rescue helicopter and two Clifden RNLI lifeboats were all involved in the rescue, which began yesterday after the alarm was raised by the man's diving party when he failed to return to the dive boat after several hours.
