The dollar remained near recent two-week high against the euro today ahead of an expected rise in interest rates by the US Federal Reserve later today.

The Fed is widely expected to raise interest rates by a quarter point to 2.75 per cent in its seventh consecutive increase.

Some expect it could hint at a more aggressive stance by removing its reference to raising rates at a "measured" pace.

Markets are also focused on US producer price data due at this afternoon for clues about how aggressively the Fed would need to tighten to counter inflation given a recent surge in

By early this morning the euro held steady at $1.3170, having fallen to a two-week low of $1.3138 yesterday.

The dollar was also steady at 1.1770 Swiss francs and 105.00 yen. The greenback has gained more than 2 per cent against the euro and yen since the start of the year.

The Fed will announce its decision at about 7.15 p.m.(Irish time) tonight.
