Donegal became the first Ulster County to vote for the abolition of Rule 21 which prevents members of the British Armed forces from becoming members of GAA clubs.
The County Board met last night and voted overwhelmingly in favour of change with the motion passed by 34 votes to four.
So far three other Ulster counties, Armagh, Derry and Fermanagh, voted to keep the ruling. For the rule to be abolished two thirds of the delegates have to vote for the motion at the special GAA congress in Dublin on November 17th.
