A Galway double rapist convicted in 1997 must continue serving his 10 1/2-year sentence until at least March 2nd. Paul Cullinane (35), of Barry Avenue, Galway, was jailed by now retired Mr Justice Flood on April 14th, 1997, for the rape of a schoolgirl on August 24th, 1993.

Cullinane had lured the teenager off a bus, taken her to his home and raped her. He was also jailed in 1982 for six years for raping another woman.

Mr Justice O Caoimh, who has now taken over the case at the Central Criminal Court, remanded Cullinane in continuing custody yesterday and directed the preparation of a psychological report.
