Manchester - A 90-year-old motorist was last night released on bail just hours after becoming Britain's oldest prisoner when he was jailed for 12 months for killing a woman and her granddaughter.
Judge Gerard Humphries at Manchester Crown Court told Stanley Casson: "There are none of the usual aggravating features often found in such cases. There was a failure to see these two people."
The prosecutor, Mr Andrew O'Byrne, said the accident happened last October when Hollie Williams, aged six, her 13-year-old brother, Ryan, and their grandmother Bridget Wood (78), were crossing Victoria Avenue East, Blackley, Manchester.
