The driver of a car, which crashed into pedestrians at the junction of Abbey Street and Jervis Street in Dublin yesterday, has been released without charge.

A woman in her 50s died in the Mater hospital yesterday after she was struck by the car close to the Jervis Luas stop shortly before 1pm. The other injured pedestrian was also taken to the Mater hospital. He is believed to have suffered leg injuries.

The man in his 30s, who was arrested at the scene under the Road Traffic Act, has been released without charge, the Garda said today. “A file will be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions,” a Garda spokesman said.

The area was closed to traffic for a time and Luas services were disrupted yesterday as gardaí investigated into the incident.
