A woman who claims she was wrongly removed from her job as a schoolbus driver after it was alleged she had struck a child attending a special needs school yesterday secured a High Court order restraining Bus Eireann from preventing her being employed as a driver of school buses.

In her decision, Ms Justice Macken noted there was a "very strong" affidavit from the mother of the child which supported the driver, Ms Rosario Donohoe of Spiddal, Nobber, Co Meath.

The judge also found that Bus Eireann had no contractual right to veto the employment of a driver contracted to another bus service operator, even where there were good reasons to do so, other than on medical grounds or grounds relating to a person's driving ability.
