Duchas, the Heritage Service, has been told to pay £500 compensation for passing over a woman applicant for the post of ranger in the Phoenix Park.
Ms Irene MacAvin, a constable in St Stephen's Green, Dublin, applied for promotion to the Phoenix Park position in late 1998. Following an interview she was notified on January 26th, 1999, that she had been placed sixth on the panel, behind the successful five male applicants.
The investigating Equality Officer has found that Ms MacAvin should have been placed fifth on the panel and recommended her appointment from the same date as the fifth appointee, with full arrears of pay. It also recommended she be paid £500 in compensation for inconvenience and distress.
