Republic of Ireland star Damien Duff was today named on the uefa.com Team of the Year for 2002.

Duff, used as a makeshift striker during the World Cup finals by former manager Mick McCarthy, is selected alongside Zinedine Zidane, Clarence Seedorf and Michael Ballack as the outstanding midfielders of 2002.

The poll, carried out by the website's readers, reflects the significant contributions made by players in the World Cup finals, the UEFA Champions League and the UEFA Cup.

Arsenal striker Thierry Henry is the only other Premiership player named in the team. It is the second year in succession the Frenchman is named on the side.

Turkey excelled in the Far East by finishing third and are rewarded by goalkeeper Rustu Recber taking his place between the posts.
