THE Democratic Unionist Party (DUP) has said it will stand down its candidate for the Westminster general election in the Fermanagh/South Tyrone constituency.

The move follows the UUP's decision not to field a candidate in the Mid Ulster constituency which is held by the DUP's Rev William McCrea.

The parties have had discussions about an election pact for the forthcoming Westminster election.

The sitting MP for Fermanagh/South Tyrone is the UUP's Mr Ken Maginnis. The UUP has said it wanted a reciprocal gesture by the DUP in North Belfast, but the DUP said MidUlster was paired with Fermanagh/South Tyrone.
