The epicentre of the quake was 125 miles northeast of the city of Peshawar in the Hindu Kush mountains, said department official Malik Tanveer. It struck at 5.49 am Irish time.

The quake came just over three months after a 7.6 magnitude quake killed more than 73,000 people in northern Pakistan.
