Ease in ground likely for Derby

The going was described as yielding this morning, but it rained at lunchtime and a further ground update will be made at 8am ahead of the first day of the three-day feature.

"It was yielding first thing this morning and we've had some rain since lunchtime. Until that passes I'm not sure what affect that has had on the ground," course manager Paul Hensey said.

"We'll walk it again in the morning and see where we are.  We had some nice drying weather on Wednesday, the rain's clearing now and hopefully it will be dry during the night.

"It's hard to know what the ground will be like on the big day, but I think we will be on the easy side.

"There's little chance of it improving but I think it will be yielding, the equivalent to good to soft, or thereabouts.

"The forecast remains mixed which is why it is difficult to predict."
