Scoil Mhuire Gan Smal, in Blarney, Co Cork, has been given a multimedia projector by Analog Devices, the high-technology semiconductor company. The equipment was won for his school by second-year student Eoin O'Connell, winner of the junior individual section of the Analog Devices Technology Category at the National Young Scientist and Technology Exhibition in January.

Eoin's project, called "Automatic Cat Flap", involved designing an automatic cat flap opener by using a magnet and pick-up coil to control the operation of a motorised door, so replacing a current cat-flap. Praising the project Analog Device's Bill Hunt said it would "encourage more students to explore and understand the wonders of technology". As well as winning the projector for his school, Eoin O'Connell also received a specially commissioned trophy and a travel award.
