THE IRISH Management Institute is running a diploma in applied finance starting on November 13th. The course runs three days a month until June next. "The course is designed for managers with very little formal training in finance who find themselves having to discuss or make decisions about financial matters in their companies," says course director Ciaran Walsh.
"We get a mix of students attending the course including engineers, marketing executives, legal people and a growing number of owner-managers. We cover the world of corporate finance from A-Z using mainly Irish companies as examples. We spend time studying company accounts and looking at profitability, valuation and liquidity and at how these three elements are linked and we also spend quite a bit of time on valuation theory."
