FANCY yourself as a writer or as the muse to inspire students to write? Workshops on playwriting skills, focusing in particular on disability awareness, will be on over the coming months around the country for second-level teachers. The objective of the workshops, which form part of the Young Playwrights' Programme at City Arts Centre in Dublin, is to enable teachers to explore the area of disability awareness and to develop their own creative skills in drama.

Teachers will be given accompanying material and examples of how to help students in writing and submitting a play on the theme of disability. The first workshop will be given by Paddy Doyle, author of The God Squad and a member of the Commission on the Status for People with Disabilities.

It is hoped that the programme will encourage young people, with or without disabilities, to write a play on the theme of disability. The first workshop will be held on Saturday, March 22nd, at the City Arts Centre in Dublin. The second will also take place at the centre on Saturday, April 12th.
