Secondary schoolteachers in Honduras went on strike for a day last week to demand that the Honduran government pay them their salaries. A 20 per cent pay rise for all teachers was to take effect in January but only primary-school teachers had received their wages. Finance minister Gabriela Nunez says that the bureaucracy involved in implementing the pay rise had caused the delay in checks being issued.
