In an initiative which it is hoped will relieve the labour shortage in the electronics sector, the Institute of Technology, Tallaght, has come together with a number of electronic companies in the Swords area to offer their employees places on a locally run course leading to a National Certificate in Engineering (Electro-Mechanical).

The 3-year course will be accredited by the NCEA and produce qualified electro-mechanical engineering technicians for the manufacturing and maintenance functions of industry. Course organisers have arranged for the use of a Swords' secondary school on two evenings a week.
