Literacy Awareness Week (LAW) ends on Saturday. There are some 500,000 people in the country with a serious literacy problem and, with lack of awareness a major issue, the National Adult Literacy Agency (NALA) has produced a new literacy awareness leaflet as well as a set of literacy referral guidelines with advice on how to help those with literacy difficulties. NALA is also calling on the Government to implement a national literacy plan. You can find out more, and help spread awareness, by contacting the NALA resource room at (01) 855 4331 or at e-mail: resources@nala.ie.
