PRIMARY school teachers can now order a copy of the INTO's recently published Information Technology in Irish Primary Education. The computer is as important as a library, says Senator Joe O'Toole, general secretary of the INTO. "It is regressive and irresponsibly Luddite to imagine that primary school pupils can be prepared and ready for the world without access to computers." The booklet is produced in recognition of "the potential of IT as a cross-curriculum resource which can be used through a range of curricular activities".
The union hopes that this policy document will highlight the issue within primary schools and that this will ultimately bring about change.
