Leaving Cert: ordinary level Irish paper: Good news for students yesterday as Paper I presented no nasty surprises.
"It was very, very true to form," said Institute of Education teacher Clare Grealy.
The paper was described as "light-hearted" and not too challenging by teachers.
There was a reasonable mix of composition choices, according to teachers. One of the titles, translated as "the biggest problem in the world today", was described as "a pet of an essay title" by Éamonn Maguire, subject expert for The Irish Times Study Guides.
"Every student will surely be able to think of some problem and write about it," Mr Maguire said. He expressed concern about the phrasing of one of the titles which required students to write about Saturday night being their favourite night. "I'm not sure that ordinary level students would have known what it meant," he said.
Profiles of Paisean Faisean presenter Aoife Ní Thuairisc, as well as golfers Tiger Woods and Michelle Wie, made for interesting comprehension reading.
Students loved the golf one, according to Mr Maguire. This positive reaction from teachers was mirrored by students who seemed happy coming out of the exam. "Anyone taking ordinary level should have been reasonably pleased," Ms Grealy said.
