TrOcaire launched this website dedicated to the global human rights dimensions of Civic, Social and Political Education (CSPE) last November to help teachers and students engage with and understand human rights issues and to encourage and assist students in taking action for a better world.

The parents section answers the questions: What is CSPE? What makes it different? How can I support my child? and Why is Trocaire producing this Website? Once they have read up on the basics parents should move on to the teacher and student sections.

Dividing the sections into trade, environmental, development, refugee, children and human rights makes this site very easy to use. Each section is then subdivided into areas like learning exercises, news headlines and good, relevant links to further information.

In the trade rights section there are interesting facts on the people who probably made the T-shirt and sneakers that you are wearing. In the refugee rights section the myths are separated from the facts with information on how only a tiny proportion of the world's refugees make it to Europe, let alone Ireland, and that African countries shelter more than twice as many refugees as Europe, North America, and Australia combined.

The teachers section has great information and suggestions for activities. It also offers this advice in reference to refugees: "Be active . . . everyone has the right to be treated with dignity."

This is an absolute must-see for anyone involved in teaching or studying CSPE. Others should not be put off by the fact that this is a Junior Cert subject - we can all learn something here. Well done, Trocaire!
