Skool.ie, the free interactive education website, was launched last week by the Taoiseach, Bertie Ahern. The site provides interactive learning with online tuition in science and business studies.

Skoool.ie - which will be expanded over a five-year period - has been developed by The Irish Times, Intel and AIB.

The site features an "Exam Centre", providing revision notes on all the main Leaving Cert subjects from later this month.

Beginning next week, EL will publish a series of study guides, in association with skoool.ie. These will provide detailed study and revision notes on the Leaving Cert.

The skoool.ie site is intended to complement existing teaching and learning - in the classroom and at home.

The site also contains education news, advice on parenting and information on careers and money management.

Speaking at the launch, Maeve Donovan, managing director of The Irish Times, said the newspaper has long been committed to a high standard of editorial content in the whole area of education. She paid particular tribute to the pioneering work of the late Christina Murphy.

"Our commitment to education is not about short-term circulation building. It is a substantial strand of our paper's content every day," she said.
