TALKS on dyslexia will be open to the public next Saturday in the Spa Hotel, Lucan, Co Dublin. They have been organised as part of the 25th annual meeting of the Association for Children and Adults with Learning Disabilities, which operates 18 workshops around the country and has up to 1,400 members. The day-long session begins at 10 a.m. and will continue until 4 p.m.

Educational psychologists Jeanne Browne and Evelyn Buckley will speak how on dyslexia affects children at school. "It's very difficult to get information across to teachers who don't know very much about it or that there's a whole organisation out there to help," says Anne Hughes, ACLD administrator.

Anne Owen Jones and Maria Rowlette, programme co-ordinators of ACLD Workshops in Galway and Tallaght, Co Dublin, respectively, will talk about teaching strategies used in their centres.

"These talks should be of great interest to parents and teachers," says Hughes. "They will provide help in identifying if a child has a specific learning difficulty and also what one does if such a difficulty is diagnosed." Admission is £10 for non-members, £5 for members.
