Is it possible to send an e-mail from your mobile phone, and, if it is, does it make a difference whether you have an Esat or Eircell, a pre-paid or rental mobile? - Tom Moriarty, Co Tipperary.
Yes Tom, it is possible to send e-mails from your mobile, and it doesn't matter if it is Esat or Eircell, pre-paid or rental. It doesn't even matter if you are using a foreign company's phone. So if you are reading this in Northern Ireland, Britain or anywhere, the advice is just the same. It is also very easy to follow.
Firstly, go to the "write messages" option on your mobile phone's menu. Enter the e-mail address destination as the first part of the message. After that, leave one blank space and then type the message you wish to send. (You are limited to exactly the same amount of characters when sending an email from a mobile phone as you are when sending a text message to another mobile.)
Then press "send". When asked for a number enter 086 6055506 for Digifone or Eircell phones or +35386 6055506 if using an overseas GSM operator. Press "send" again. The message will then be sent from the mobile phone directly to the e-mail receiver. And, as with normal e-mail, it should work in seconds.
David Pierce from Co Roscommon has a similar query. Is it possible to send a text message to a mobile phone from your e-mail address?
Again, it is not only possible, but very simple to use. If you want to send text messages to a mobile phone through the e-mail system, firstly compose the message as you normally would. Then send the message to the following address, +353 "PhoneNumber" @esms.nu. Replace "PhoneNumber" with the actual mobile number of the recipient and make sure to include the plus sign.
