Rielle Hunter, John Edwards’s former mistress, writes in a new book that the presidential candidate told her he had had at least two previous affairs and also fabricated three other relationships so she would not become too attached.
Mr Edwards’s federal trial in North Carolina ended in May with an acquittal on one campaign finance charge and a mistrial on five others.
The US justice department announced last week that it would not re-try the former senator. Edwards (59) was accused of seeking more than $900,000 (€716,000) from two wealthy supporters to conceal Ms Hunter and her pregnancy during his unsuccessful bid to win the Democratic nomination in 2007. At the time, his wife, Elizabeth, was fighting cancer. She died in 2010. – (Reuters)
