An elderly brother and sister were recovering in hospital yesterday after being attacked by two men at their isolated farmhouse near Ballinasloe, Co Galway.
Mr William Hogarty (71), a bachelor, of Culliaghorney, Creagh, underwent surgery at Portiuncula Hospital yesterday for severe head and facial injuries. He also suffered suspected fractured ribs and abrasions to his arms and legs in the vicious attack.
His sister, Annie (73), also single, was admitted to hospital as well. She sustained leg and hand injuries.
