At least two houses in an estate in Clondalkin were evacuated today after being flooded when a water main burst.

The leak was reported at around 6.15am and South Dublin County Council, gardaí and Dublin Fire services attended the scene with houses in the Ashwood Lawns estate evacuated.

“We attended the scene this morning to assist with traffic management and evacuations. The Fonthill road was badly damaged and submerged, and a good few houses in the Ashwood Lawns estate were affected by the leak,” a Garda spokesman said.

A spokesman for the fire service said four tenders attended the flood and two houses were flooded.

“Crews continue to work on the leak and it is expected repairs will be completed by late afternoon today,” he added.

Approximately 200 houses in the Cappagh area are experiencing disruptions to their water supply as a result of the burst mains, a spokesperson for Irish Water said.
