At a meeting of Dail Eireann in the Mansion House on January 21st, 1919, Eoin MacNeill was appointed the first minister for finance. He was replaced by Michael Collins at the second session of Dail Eireann on April 1st, 1919. Collins advertised to raise funds through the issuance of republican bonds, worth £250,000 in sums of £1 to £1,000, but they were immediately suppressed. Collins was assassinated on August 22nd, 1922, while still serving as finance minister and was succeeded by W.T. Cosgrave as finance minister and as chairman of the Provisional Government.
