An order by the Equality Tribunal against Kerry County Council to pay over €6,000 to a Traveller man, on the grounds of his being allegedly harassed by a Traveller Liaison Officer and discriminated against in terms of his housing need, was overturned at the Circuit Civil Court in Tralee yesterday.

Judge Terence O’Sullivan ruled that remarks made by the officer, which would be objectionable if said, were not discriminatory in terms of the Equal Status Act, 2000, as the remarks did not refer to the man in his capacity as a Traveller.
