The ESB estimates that it will cost £10 million to prepare its computer systems for the year 2000. The company is heavily dependent on computers, ranging from PCs in offices to embedded systems vital to the operation of power stations and the national grid.

The company has set up a Year 2000 Project with Mr Gerry Condon as overall programme manager. He has already received queries from companies seeking reassurances that they will not have problems in 2000 over this issue. All queries are being dealt with by the customer services division.
