Brussels - EU Foreign Ministers agreed yesterday to launch formal accession talks on November 10th with six countries - Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovenia, Estonia, Hungary and Cyprus, Patrick Smyth reports.
The talks follow preliminary screening of their preparedness by the Commission in seven areas presenting the fewest problems: science and research, telecommunications and data technology, education and training, culture and audiovisual policy, industrial policy, small and medium-sized companies, and foreign and common security policy.
