Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson has confirmed defender Jonny Evans has signed a four-year contract with the club.
The Northern Ireland international has become firmly established as United’s first-choice back-up to centre-halves Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic and is viewed as a potential captain of the future.
“Jonny has signed a new deal,” confirmed Ferguson ahead of Sunday’s seasonal finale against Stoke. “We have been working on it for a few months now and I am happy that he has signed it.”
Totenham have also been busy securing their young domestic talent after qualifying for the Champions League, with Gareth Bale signing a new four-year contract.
The Wales international, who joined Spurs from Southampton as a 17-year-old in May 2007, has been in sensational form for Harry Redknapp’s side this season and has agreed a new deal tying him to White Hart Lane until 2014.
Spurs clinched their top-four place and Champions League qualification with a 1-0 win at Manchester City on Wednesday.
