A 58-year-old former teacher has appeared in court in Sligo on 61 charges of indecent assault. The alleged offences, which are believed to have taken place in a primary school in the county, occurred in the early 1970s.
The arrest of the man yesterday morning follows a lengthy investigation by gardai. Two former teachers at the same school have also been charged with indecent assault.
Judge Oliver McGuinness remanded the man until Thursday.
